Passage 76 FAST is "listening" to the space!
阅读量:180词 | 难度:★★☆☆☆ | 建议用时:6分钟 | 正确率: /8

“如果这口锅里装满了饭,够全世界的人吃上好几天。”你知道这口“锅”指的是什么吗?
What looks like a huge pan(平底锅) in Guizhou, but can see faraway stars in space? The answer is China’s Five-hundred-metre Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST)(500米口径球面射电望远镜).
1.
Known as the "Sky Eye", FAST is the world's largest radio telescope. It's so big that it covers an area as large as 30 soccer fields(足球场)! People started building it in 2011 and finished in 2016.
2.
Guizhou is far away from cities, and not many people live there. So devices from human activities, such as TVs, mobile phones, and radios, can trouble the telescope less.
3.
One of FAST's main jobs is to find pulsars(脉冲星), just like the "GPS of space". Pulsars can help people find their way back to Earth if they travel to the Moon or Mars.
Moreover, the telescope can search for life in space because it is amazing at finding signals(信号). It can "see" things that are 13.7 billion light years away. This means if you made a phone call from the Moon, FAST could hear it very clearly.
