7. Facing a difficult maths problem can be frustrating at first. However, a
B
mindset will only make it harder to find the solution.

A.positive
B.negative
C.curious
D.patient

答案

选项A:positive意为“积极的”,积极的心态会帮助人克服困难推进解题,不符合“让解题更难”的描述,排除;
选项B:negative意为“消极的”,消极畏难的心态会打乱思考节奏,阻碍人找到解题思路,完全符合语境逻辑;
选项C:curious意为“好奇的”,好奇心会驱动人主动探索解法,不符合题意,排除;

8. To win the science project, every team member must learn to
D
well with others.

A.compete
B.compare
C.complete
D.cooperate

答案

1. 选项A:compete意为“竞争”,团队成员之间互相竞争完全不符合共同赢下项目的逻辑,排除;
2. 选项B:compare意为“比较”,和他人做比较不是团队获胜的必要条件,不符合语境,排除;
3. 选项C:complete意为“完成”,无法和后面的with sb构成合理语义,表达“和他人完成”逻辑不通,排除;

9. I've started sleeping earlier and feel much better now. I believe there's a close
A
between sleep and health.

A.connection
B.collection
C.condition
D.competition

答案

A. connection 意为“联系、关联”,完全符合“睡眠和健康密切相关”的表意,匹配语境;
B. collection 意为“收集、收藏品”,代入句中逻辑不通,排除;
C. condition 意为“条件、状况”,无法表达二者的关联关系,不符合语义,排除;
A

How is your personality formed?

Firstly, some aspects of your personality are passed on to you by your parents.

Secondly, your personality can be influenced by the environment around you.

答案

1. How is your personality formed?
2. Firstly, some aspects of your personality are passed on to you by your parents.
3. Secondly, your personality can be influenced by the environment around you.

2. 逻辑状语“首先”译为Firstly,“你性格的某些方面”译为some aspects of your personality,“遗传”用固定搭配pass on表达,主语和pass on是被动关系,复数主语的一般现在时被动结构为are + 过去分词,pass的过去分词为passed,用by引出动作发出者your parents,最终得到对应译文。
1. How is your personality formed?
2. Firstly, some aspects of your personality are passed on to you by your parents.
3. Secondly, your personality can be influenced by the environment around you.

(2024·泉州三模)Imagine this. There's an apple and a piece of cake on a table. Which one would you like? The delicious cake or the healthy apple? A bestseller, *Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength*, suggests that willpower(意志力)is the ability to make decisions that are better for us in the long term, rather than in the short term.
Here is a famous experiment in the book: the Marshmallow Test. From 1968 to 1970, Professor Walter Mischel tested the willpower of 600 four-year-olds to six-year-olds. In the experiment, each child was left alone in a room for fifteen minutes with a marshmallow(棉花软糖) on a table in front of them. They were given two choices: they could either eat it or, if they waited fifteen minutes, they'd be given a second one (and then they could eat both).
So, what did the kids do? Well, as you can imagine, 70% ate the first marshmallow within the fifteen minutes. But the other 30% showed willpower—they controlled themselves and waited for the second marshmallow. But then Mischel discovered something really interesting. Twenty years later, he got in touch with the children, who, by then, were in their early twenties. And he found that those who had strong willpower were getting better marks at university and were more popular.
Willpower is like a muscle(肌肉), and the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. So, if you do daily "self-control exercises", such as making your bed or brushing your teeth, you'll improve your overall willpower. And daily willpower exercises will help you with those bigger goals, such as studying for an exam or training for a marathon.
Be careful though. Just like any muscle, your "willpower muscle" can get tired. If you've had to do lots of things that require willpower, take a break or give yourself a treat. That way, you'll build up your willpower again.
And one last thing, the writer mentions people who learn foreign languages usually have a lot of willpower. So, congratulations!

There's an apple and a piece of cake on a table. Which one would you like? The delicious cake or the healthy apple?”
根据第二段“From 1968 to 1970, Professor Walter Mischel tested the willpower of 600 four-year-olds to six-year-olds.”和第三段“But the other 30% showed willpower—they controlled themselves and waited for the second marshmallow.” 故选 A。
根据第三段“Twenty years later, he got in touch with the children, who, by then, were in their early twenties. And he found that those who had strong willpower were getting better marks at university and were more popular.”
根据第四段“And daily willpower exercises will help you with those bigger goals”可知,每天的意志力练习会帮助你实现更大的目标。

Imagine this. There's an apple and a piece of cake on a table. Which one would you like? The delicious cake or the healthy apple?",作者通过设置苹果和蛋糕选择的具体实例引入意志力的话题,属于通过举例子开篇,排除A(提建议)、C(讲故事)、D(列数字),选B。
4. 推理判断题:根据第四段"daily willpower exercises will help you with those bigger goals",可知意志力强的人更容易实现目标。
Where there is a will, there is a way(有志者事竟成)"的含义完全契合。
1.B 2.A 3.C 4.D 5.C
