EMERGENCY? WHAT EMERGENCY?
What should an emergency service(服务) be like? 1. You might need to call the police if you're in a car accident. But some people phone the emergency services for some unimportant reasons. 2. Here are some examples we heard about from emergency centres all over the world.
①I ordered food from a Chinese takeaway and it didn't come. I'm so hungry! Can you tell them to hurry up, please?
②My children are making such a loud noise and I can't think about things. 3.
③There's a black cat in my garden. Black cats are such unlucky animals. Can someone please come and take it away?
These calls are funny to read about, but they can have very serious consequences(后果). “4. Maybe that doesn't sound a very long time, but in that one minute, other people who really have an emergency are calling. And for them, a minute might be really important,” said one man who works in emergency services.
So let's get really serious. 5. And of course, remember that you should never phone them with information that's untrue!
