二、阅读理解
About 500 people live in Oymyakon and it is common for this village to go over 200 days with temperatures below 0℃. Oymyakon is in the Yakutia region in Russia and is known as the coldest human settlement(定居点) on earth.
The village's lowest temperature was recorded at the Oymyakon weather station and reached -67.7℃ in 1933. It is over 20 degrees higher than the coldest temperature ever recorded on earth at ground level, and it reached -89.2℃ at the Vostok Station in Antarctica in July, 1983.
Average temperatures are around (大约) -50℃ in the winter months and Oymyakon has never recorded a temperature above 0℃ between October 25 and March 17. This region is extremely cold because the Arctic air is always sitting over top of it. High ocean temperatures or daylight heating doesn't influence the region.
The village is closer to the Arctic Circle than it is to the nearest city. Schools will be open if temperatures stay above -52℃. It is common for temperatures to drop below freezing in late September and stay below freezing until mid-April. Although there are long cold winters, Oymyakon experiences mild and sometimes hot summers. July is the village's warmest month with average temperature of 18.7℃ and has a record high of 34.6℃.
