On a video online, fish-shaped lanterns move in the air as if they are real fish. They come from an AI system(系统) created by the Machine Creation group at Shenzhen Yangang Middle School.
Jiang Jiahan, 17, one of the inventors says,“As a traditional skill in Yantian, the fish lantern dance calls for lots of practice. So we created an AI-driven fish lantern that can move on its own. It’ll allow more people to enjoy the traditional lanterns more easily.”
The AI system, named Dancer of Shadow, uses sensors(传感器) to run small machines on the lantern, making it move like real fish. According to Jiang, its rules are based on the habits of real fish. “For example, if a fish sees food, it may dance more quickly to show its excitement. Students in Yangang Middle School are encouraged to develop their interests and create new inventions in their after-class clubs. Zhang Qiang, the science club’s teacher, says the school hopes that students can follow their interests and discover their future careers through after-class activities.
