On a Friday night in New York, a poor young man named Jay stood near the subway station and played the violin. The music was so nice that many people stopped and put money into his hat.
The next day, Jay came again. He put a large piece of paper on the ground and began to play. The paper said, “Last night, a gentleman named George Sang put an important thing into my hat. Please come to claim(认领) it soon.” After half an hour, a man rushed to(赶往) Jay and said, “I am George. I knew you would come!” George told his story. He bought a lottery ticket(彩票) and won 500,000. On his way home, he put 100 into Jay's hat, but the lottery ticket went in by mistake.
Jay was a student in Paris. He had a flight that morning, but when he found the ticket, he cancelled(取消) the flight and came back. Someone asked Jay, “Why didn’t you keep the ticket?” Jay said, “I don’t have much money, but I live happily. If I lose honesty, I will not be happy forever.”
