五、阅读理解。

[2025 恩施期末]Grace used to be afraid of public speaking. Just the thought of standing in front of the class and talking made her hands shake and her heart beat fast. So when Mr Li said there would be a speech contest(比赛), she wanted to run away right away.
Her best friend, Leo, noticed her worries. He touched her shoulder and said, “You’re good at telling stories—why not give it a try?” But Grace shook her head. “I’ll mess up,” she said in a low voice. “Everyone will laugh at me.” For days, she struggled with the decision. Part of her wanted to challenge herself, but the other part planned to give up. Leo didn’t push her. Instead, he stayed after school to encourage Grace to practise the speech, helping to fix her mistakes.
On the contest day, Grace was so nervous that it felt like her heart was in her mouth as she walked to the stage. She saw Leo sitting in the front row, smiling at her. His smile calmed her racing heart. She took a deep breath and started speaking. At first, her voice was shaky(摇晃的), but soon, she forgot her fear and lost herself in the story. When she finished, all the students and teachers clapped(鼓掌) loudly.
Grace didn’t win the first prize, but she felt like a champion(冠军). Leo ran to her and the two friends talked and laughed happily. That day, Grace realised action is the best way to get over the fear.
