Lots of teenagers hope to get into good schools and live up to parents' expectations. More than 54 percent of the students said admission to high school or university is the biggest source of their stress, followed by parental expectations(43 percent) and exams(40 percent), according to a new online survey by China Education 30 Forum.
Almost 65 percent of the students said they would turn to their friends for help when under too much stress, and less than 50 percent said they would ask their parents for help. Only 16 percent said they would look for help from teachers and 10 percent from psychological(心理学的) counsellors.
Dr Yang is an expert from the National Education Advisory Committee. He said,"It's important to propose new ideas of education and learning in order to lower students' stress."Although it's normal to want successful children,it's even more important to have happy children. He advised reducing the number and the difficulty of courses and exams.
Li Xinying,a researcher,said,"High expectations from parents will put much more stress on children,and their grades are likely to be worse.""If parents beat their children,control them too much or often scold(责骂) them,it will negatively affect their brain development and lead to serious psychological problems," she added.
