I didn't stop running until I arrived at the bottom of a hill. I heard some stones falling down the hillside, and when I looked up, I saw something jump behind a tree. The creature moved quickly from tree to tree. It was getting closer to me. It was a man! I felt afraid, but then I remembered that I had a pistol and I felt brave(勇敢的）again. Suddenly, the man came forward and fell to his knees asking for mercy.
“Who are you?” I asked.
“I am poor Ben Gunn,” he answered. “I was left alone on this island three years ago.”
He was a white man like myself, with very sunburnt skin. He wore pieces of old clothes to cover his body.
“Is that Flint's ship, Jim?” he asked.
“No, Flint's dead,” I answered. “But some of his crew are here, unfortunately.”
“Is there a man with one leg?” he gasped.
“Silver?” I asked. “Yes, he's the cook and their leader.”
I then explained the whole situation to him, and he listened carefully.
“You're a good boy, Jim,” he said. “I will help you and your captain if you help me to get home, and give me a share of the money because there's lots of money for everyone. I'm rich! Rich! And I have made a boat, which I keep by some white rocks by the beach. We can all escape together. First let me tell you my story ...”
