Ⅱ. 任务型读写。
Li Shizhen (1518—1593) was a famous Chinese medical scientist. Exploring China to study its medicinal herbs(药草) became his life's work. He decided to research the world of plants used in medicine after he found many mistakes in old books and worried they would cause problems.

To write a new and correct book, he spent years in wild mountains and forests, traveling everywhere to look for herbs. He talked with farmers and doctors, discovering and naming over 1,890 herbs. The work was dangerous. He once fell seriously ill while doing field work after testing a poisonous(有毒的) herb on himself and nearly died. But he never stopped his work.
Despite his huge success with the *Compendium of Materia Medica* or *Bencao Gangmu*, Li Shizhen seldom thought about personal honour. He was always quiet about his achievement. For him, the achievement belonged to the people who helped him. His valuable work, which took nearly 30 years to complete, finally came out and is still read worldwide today.
