四、阅读短文,选出正确答案
In a small town in northern China, there was a tall brick wall between two neighbours, Mr. Li and Mr. Zhang. For years, the two families lived happily side by side. However, one day, Mr. Li's son accidentally broke Mr. Zhang's window while playing football. The two neighbours started to argue and stopped talking to each other.
For months, the wall between their houses seemed to grow higher and higher. Mr. Li's wife felt sad about the broken relationship. One morning, she decided to do something. She hung a basket on the wall and filled it with fresh vegetables from her garden. She attached a note that read: "From your neighbour, with warm wishes."
Mr. Zhang was surprised when he
found the basket. That afternoon, he put a bag of fruit and a jar of honey in the same basket. Soon, the basket became a "gift station" between the two families. The children started playing together again, and the two neighbours finally sat down for tea and talked honestly about their feelings.
"The wall is still there," Mr. Li laughed, "but it no longer stands between our hearts."
Now the two families often say that kindness is the bravest gift you can give. It breaks down walls of fear and anger, and brings joy and understanding to everyone.
