As a child, I got angry quite easily and
was not good at communicating with
others.
I still remember it was an early
autumn. One day, as I was getting ready
for school, my mother carelessly handed
me my father's vest背心. At that time, I
was getting to have a larger size than my
father, so when I put on the vest, I felt as
if I wasn't able to breathe! Somehow the
breathless feeling made me very angry. My
mother said sorry, but I still shouted at
her. I got it off my body so wildly that I
made a hole in it. I put on my own vest and
rushed out of the house. Later, my mother
shared her bad feelings with my father. My
father didn't beat me. Instead, he quietly
asked my mother to mend the vest.
Later, when my mother told me about
my father's reaction反应, I felt terribly
sorry for my bad behaviour行为. My
father's gentle kindness taught me a lesson
which I would never forget. On that day, I
made a decision not to lose my temper any
longer.

Parents with their children away at
college often worry about how their
children are dealing with their daily lives.
Are they eating properly? Are they getting
enough exercise? According to a new
study, these worries may not be
completely wrong. Meg Small, a
researcher, says that only one third of
college students have a healthy diet.
Fortunately, according to the research,
students seem to be healthier on the days
when they communicate with their parents.
Students at a large US university were
asked to complete some surveys. The
surveys included questions about how much
time students spent talking to their parents
and questions about their eating habits and
activity levels.
During the two-week survey, it was
found that they ate 14% more fruits and
vegetables, and were 50% more likely to
take part in at least 30 minutes of sports or
activities on the days when they
communicated with their parents for 30
minutes or more.
Meg Small believes that some parents
may directly tell their children to eat better
foods and take part in activities, but it is
also suggested that even if healthy living
were not discussed, the very act of
communicating with their parents can be
enough to encourage them to make healthier
choices and take better care of themselves.
This study also suggests that the more
parents communicate with their children,
the healthier lifestyles their children will
lead. However, it is equally important to
get a balance. By calling too often, parents
may quite easily appear to distrust their
children, while calling too little, or not at
all, sends the message that they do not
care.
