Do you know that giraffes are the tallest animals on land? They can be 14 to 19 feet tall! Their legs are as tall as a grown man.
Giraffes have spots. Their spots can be light tan (棕褐色的). They can also be brown or almost black. Each giraffe has its own unique pattern (图案) of spots. No two giraffes have the same pattern.
Giraffes live on the plains in Africa. It is hot and dry there. Giraffes are social animals. This means they stay together in a group. A group usually has 6 to 12 giraffes.
For giraffes, it’s always mealtime! They eat for 16 to 20 hours every day. That means they eat lots and lots of leaves. A long neck helps a giraffe get leaves up high.
Some big animals have small babies. But that’s not for giraffes. They are big animals that have big babies. A baby giraffe weighs 100 to 150 pounds when it’s born. It is called a calf.
Giraffes can run very fast for a short time. *This helps them get away from predators (捕食者), like lions and crocodiles. They can use their hooves to kick a predator, too.
