B
This summer, my city faced the biggest challenge I've ever seen. A terrible heat wave and drought turned our green mountains brown and caused many wildfires.
Since the fire started, thousands of volunteers, office workers, shop owners, and students all came to help the professionals. Under the burning sun, local people worked together with them to fight the fire. They used special tools to cut down dry trees, creating wide paths (通道) to stop the fire from spreading. The sound of motorcycles (摩托车) never stopped—they raced up and down the hills, carrying firefighters and important supplies.
My family helped too. My parents were packing supplies at the collection point, while I and other teenagers were carrying bottles of water and food to the volunteers. Even heavy boxes felt light when we passed them along in a human chain.
The most amazing night was when the fire reached Jinyun Mountain. Over a thousand people stood shoulder to shoulder, each holding an extinguisher (灭火器). When darkness fell, they turned on their headlamps, creating a shining silver wall that stood bravely against the red fire. It was the sight we wouldn't forget—a wall of hope protecting our home.
After several days of continuous fighting, we finally got good news: all the wildfires were put out! The firefighters from other cities were deeply touched. One from Yunnan said, "I've never seen such unity. Everywhere we went, people asked if we needed anything." Another from Gansu laughed while remembering how locals brought him ice cream right at the fire line.
Through this experience, I learnt that when we stand together as one big family, no difficulty is too great to overcome. The silver wall of light will always shine in my memory, reminding me of the summer when ordinary people became heroes.
