Yu Xinxin is a young artist from Nanchong, Sichuan Province. She makes beautiful paintings on silk. This special art is called Shu painting. Yu is part of the fourth generation of Shu painting artists. She wants to share this art with the world.

Yu has loved silk since she was a child. Her hometown, Nanchong, is famous for making silk. When she was young, she enjoyed watching silkworms(蚕) eat leaves and seeing her grandmother make embroidery(刺绣品). In high school, Yu learned basic skills of silk weaving (织) and embroidery from her grandmother. Later, while studying at a music university, she spent much of her spare time learning about the history and culture of Shu embroidery and Shu painting.
In 2022, Yu met Gao Zuoqing, a master of Shu painting. When she saw his colourful artworks, she couldn't take her eyes off them. She wanted to learn from him. Finally, her dream came true. However, learning Shu painting was not easy. It has more than 10 steps, and Yu practised very hard.
To improve her skills, Yu used modern technology like AI. This helped her make better paintings. In 2024, she started her own company. Now, she makes scarves, bags, and other products with Shu painting designs. People in France, Japan, and other countries buy her products.
Considering that learning Shu painting requires a long time and great efforts, Yu is planning to set up workshops in universities to teach students who are interested. She holds classes and shares videos online, too. "I hope more people will learn about this beautiful art," she says. Thanks to her hard work, Shu painting is becoming more popular around the world.
