Dorothy and her little dog Toto lived in a small house in Kansas. She loved Toto very much, and they played with each other all the time.
One day, a terrible storm came and blew their house up into the air. Dorothy's house fell down in a mysterious but beautiful place in Oz. Dorothy and Toto moved out of the house and looked around.
Suddenly, a crowd of tiny people rushed up to them happily. An old woman said in a sweet voice, “Welcome to the nation of Oz. You have helped to kill the Wicked(邪恶的) Witch of the East, and set us Munchkin people free. Thank you.”
“There must be some mistakes. I didn’t kill anyone.” Dorothy felt confused. The old woman pointed to the corner of the house. “Her two feet are still under your house.”
“Oh, dear! My house must have fallen on her. I didn’t mean to harm her,” cried Dorothy, looking scared. “I’m the Good Witch of the North. You saved us, so if there is any help I can provide, just ask,” said the old woman.
“Can you tell me a way to go back to Kansas?” asked Dorothy.
“Sorry, I can’t! However, the Wizard(巫师) of Oz can help you with that. You have to go to the Emerald City. But there’s a long way to go. It is not easy to find him. Put on the magic silver shoes that belonged to the Wicked Witch of the East because these may be of use later on. I will give you my kiss and no one will hurt you.”
“Now, follow the yellow brick road all the way to the Emerald City. This path will lead you to the Wizard of Oz.” The Good Witch kissed Dorothy on the forehead and said goodbye to her.
