A 13-year-old boy was on holiday with his family near Quindalup. He was on a kayak (皮划艇) while his mother and two little brothers were on a paddleboard (冲浪板). Suddenly, strong winds blew them far out to the open sea, a place famous for sharks.
The boy's kayak started to fill with water. He could not stay in it. His family could not paddle back against the wind. Someone had to get help. So he decided to swim back to shore (岸) alone.
He swam four kilometres using breaststroke, freestyle and backstroke. He wore a life jacket for the first two hours, but he moved too slowly. He took it off and kept swimming for another two hours.
When he reached the beach, he collapsed. But soon he stood up and ran two kilometres to find a phone and call for help.
Rescue teams came soon with helicopters and boats. *At 8:30 pm, they found his mother and brothers holding onto the paddleboard 14 kilometres from the shore. Luckily, all of them wore life jackets.
A rescue commander said, “He saved his family.”
