In 2025, Australia introduced the world’s first social (社交的) media (媒体) rule. It was a new law: kids under 16 can’t have social media accounts (账号). Social media platforms (平台) must stop them from opening accounts.
Why did Australia make this new rule? It’s to keep kids safe.★ It lets kids enjoy their childhood more in the real world and learn about online safety.
The new rule helps kids in many ways:
First, kids can stay away from strangers and bad things online. They won’t get strange messages easily.
Second, kids have more time for their hobbies, like painting, reading and listening to music. So they won’t spend long hours on their phones.
Third, kids can play with their friends more in real life. Their friendship will become stronger and better.
Fourth, kids can do more sports, such as riding bikes, jumping rope and running with friends.
