Marco Polo was an Italian traveller and trader. At the age of 17, he travelled along the land Silk Road to the East with his father and uncle. He described Hangzhou as the most beautiful city in the world. After returning to Italy, he was captured in a sea battle. In prison, he told a large number of stories about Asia. His experiences had a huge influence on the opening of new sea routes later.

The Travels of Marco Polo written by a prisoner, attractive, brings a whole new world to Europeans.

Marco Polo (1254.9—1324.1) was an Italian voyager and merchant. In his youth, he traveled to the East with his father and uncle, and after a long journey, he arrived in ancient China. Eventually, he reached Beijing and met the Emperor.
During his stay in China, Marco Polo was surprised at many novel things, such as paper money, coal, and the grand Summer Palace. He was so interested in these things that he carefully observed and recorded them.
After living in China for many years, Marco Polo decided to return to Italy. However, he was captured and put in prison on his way back. Consequently, he met a prisoner who was a writer in the jail.
Together, they wrote *The Travels of Marco Polo*. The book was so attractive that it soon spread across Europe. In addition, it brought a whole new world to Europeans, making them eager to explore the East.
