阅读下面短文,回答短文后面的各个小题。
I will never forget my first dinner at my American friend, Leo's house. It was also my first time to experience a cultural difference so directly.
That day, Leo's mother cooked a large roast beef. It looked and smelled wonderful. When she passed me the plate, I took it and directly put the biggest piece on my plate. I thought it was the best way to show her that I really liked the food. In China, taking a big portion is often a compliment to the host.
However, as soon as I did it, I noticed a sudden silence around the table. Leo's younger brother stared at me with wide eyes. Leo looked a bit embarrassed, and his mother's smile seemed to freeze for a second. I immediately felt that I had done something wrong, but I didn't know what it was. I spent the rest of the dinner feeling confused and awkward.
After dinner, Leo pulled me aside and explained gently,"Here, it's polite to take a smaller piece first. Taking the biggest one might be seen as a bit greedy." I finally understood! I felt so sorry for my mistake.
I apologized to his mother. She was very kind and said,"Don't worry about it. It's a learning experience for all of us!" This experience taught me a valuable lesson: what is considered polite in one culture might be different in another. The most important thing is to learn, understand, and respect these differences.
51. Where did the story happen?
It happened in Leo's (American friend's) house.

52. Why did the writer take the biggest piece of roast beef?
Because he thought it was a way to show he liked the food./To show the host he liked the food.

53. What was the reaction of Leo's family when the writer took the biggest piece?
Surprised./Shocked.

54. What was the valuable lesson the writer learnt from this experience?
What is polite in one culture might be different in another, and we should learn and respect these differences.

55. If you were the writer, what would you do after realizing the cultural difference? Why?
I would do the same as the writer—apologize and explain my original intention. Because it helps clear up the misunderstanding and shows respect.(开放性答案,合理即可)
