People love to fly colorful balloons for special events, such as festivals and ceremonies(典礼). While a colorful balloon may look beautiful for a few short minutes, it can be a big problem for the environment.

Most of the balloons we use are latex(胶乳) balloons. Although latex balloons are said to be biodegradable(可生物降解的), it will take them six months to four years to break down and they can cause great damage before they do. Balloons may break up into smaller pieces over time and kill countless animals. They can travel thousands of miles and pollute the remote places.
Balloons have a bad effect on the earth and wildlife. They also waste helium(氦气).
