Nyesha loved music. Everything about music made Nyesha feel fantastic.
One afternoon, Nyesha was listening to her favourite band when she had a wonderful idea. She wanted to have a music party with real instruments.
Nyesha invited her friends. Sasha agreed to bring her violin. Peter said he would bring his drum set. And as for Nyesha, she was going to use the best instrument she had:her voice.
On a beautiful autumn Saturday, Nyesha and her mother set up a small stage in their backyard. The party was to start that afternoon.
At two o'clock, the doorbell rang. “Peter! Sasha! It’s nice to see you,” said Nyesha, hugging her friends as she opened the door. She looked around. “But where are your instruments?” she asked.
“Bad news—my violin strings(琴弦) broke,” said Sasha.
“Sorry, my drum set was too heavy to carry,” said Peter.
“But we can’t have a music party without any instruments,” Nyesha was a little down. “It’s okay. We can play something else instead,” Nyesha said cheerfully, although she didn’t really feel that way inside.
Nyesha's friends headed for the backyard. Disappointed, Nyesha went to find her mother in the kitchen.
“What’s troubling you?” asked Nyesha’s mother.
“I’m sad they didn’t bring their instruments,” Nyesha replied.
Her mother thought for a moment. “Music is all around you, my dear,” she said in a soft voice with a smile.
Later that afternoon, her mother brought them a snack of dumplings.
“Fresh from the pot,” she said. Suddenly, Nyesha remembered her papa playing his steel pot. She would often play along with him by tapping(轻拍) a wooden spoon on the bottom of her mother’s pot. Nyesha had an idea!
“Sasha, clap(拍手) your hands three times like this,” Nyesha instructed. CLAP, CLAP, CLAP! “Good,” said Nyesha.
“Oh, I know! I’ll stomp(跺脚) my feet twice like this,” said Peter, and he stomped his feet to the beat. STOMP, STOMP. “Perfect,” said Nyesha.
