Self-control keeps your feelings in check. It balances your wants and your needs. There are many ways to show self-control.
Jack had a temper. Even little things could make him angry. He tried a lot to control it. His teacher told him to count to 10 before saying bad words when he was angry. It saved him from saying a lot of unkind words. Because he didn't really mean that. Jack was learning self-control.
Rover loved to eat sweet food. His mother didn't want him to have too much. He could only eat cookies and cakes with less sugar in. So when he got some sweet food, he had it slowly. He saved some for the next day. He did not want to eat it all at once. Rover had self-control.
