Once, long ago in Mexico, three brothers lived on a small farm. The road was rocky. There was not much rain. Their crops did not grow well. For these reasons, they were very poor. Each day Paul, the youngest brother, got up before sunrise. Then he walked silently out of the house while his brothers, Michael and Henry, were sleeping deeply. Paul walked many miles to the nearest school. He couldn’t spend the whole day at school because he had to return home to help his brothers on the farm.
“Here comes Mr Smart,” Michael would laugh at(嘲笑) Paul when he returned. Michael never went to school and he didn’t want to go. He didn’t understand why Paul liked it so much. Not until the day Paul brought home much money did Michael know how great it was to go to school. Paul worked hard at school and won a scholarship. From that day on, Michael never laughed at him when Paul came back home. Their life would be happy.
