On October 30, 2024, Shenzhou XIX was launched. Song Lingdong became one of the first astronauts from the post-1990s generation in China to go into space.
Born into a farmer's family in Caoxian county, Shandong in August 1990, Song was recruited(招募) by the People's Liberation Army Air Force of China in 2007 and was sent to learn flying.
In the first months at the Aviation University of Air Force, Song got bad grades in his physical tests because of long-time malnutrition(营养不良). He also went through a hard time the first time he flew in the machine because of airsickness(晕机).
After that, Song decided to change through hard work and strict training. He soon became the one student in his class who always exercises on the playground. Thanks to his hard work, he got the top grades in his exams.
Song Lingdong said when he was only 13, he watched a TV news report about China's first space flight. That made him want to fly above the atmosphere(大气层).
In September 2020, he was chosen as one of the third group of astronauts and began his training in Beijing. With the launch of Shenzhou XIX, his dream has come true.
