Have you ever heard of the three Rs—“reduce, reuse, recycle”? They help cut down on the trash we throw away. But how can we do that? Recently, this idea came to life in China in a special way at the Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring scenic spot(鸣沙山月牙泉景区) in Dunhuang, Gansu Province.
The scenic spot introduces the “Exchange trash for gifts” activity. How does it work? Visitors can get a trash bag from the workers, pick up the trash around the site, and then exchange the trash for small gifts such as key chains and fridge magnets(冰箱贴) for free.
Wang Keshou, a member of the cleaners, feels happy seeing a lot of visitors helping pick up trash. “This has largely helped in my work,” he says.
Mrs Yang is a visitor from Tianjin. She had a great time at the scenic spot with her child.
Her child is excited to pick up trash for gifts. She thinks the activity is meaningful. “It teaches children that they should not throw trash everywhere. Trash should be put in the right place. Everyone should take action to protect the environment,” she says.
The activity begins at 8:30 pm every day, and one hour later, visitors can exchange gifts. It will last till mid-October.
