The mid-term test has just passed. And the final exam is already on its way. Still worried about your Maths? You may feel it is difficult and boring. Is it because the way you look at Maths is not right? Teens talked with Li Jun, a Maths teacher at Nantong University. We interviewed him if Maths can be beautiful and fun. Here's what Li said.
Many people today want to have beautiful looks. But there is maths in beautiful human bodies. The length from your head to your belly button and the length from your belly button to your feet have a ratio(比率)that is always around 0.618. This is the golden ratio, and we can see it everywhere, like in nature, music, and drawings. In Chinese poems, we can also see the beauty of numbers, which reminds us of a line, “
C
”—the numbers show how fast Li Bai travelled and how happy he felt.
Besides numbers, beauty can also be found in curves(曲线). Just like sine curves, they go to the two opposite directions and never stop. When you look at them, you may feel like a waterfall by the sea watching the water moving slowly. While the tangent curve is like a waterfall. That is really like “going down three thousand feet from high”. If you do a maths problem and get that curve, you'll feel excited and fun.
What's more, formulas can also be beautiful. Take a look at Euler's Formula: $ e^{iπ} + 1 = 0 $. The number “e” is an irrational number(无理数), whose digits(位数) go on and on and never stop. “π” is also such an irrational number. However, when these two numbers come together, things become different!

)4. Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A. Difficult and Boring: This is How Maths Like
B. Doing Maths Problems: Feeling Excited and Fun
C. Beauty in Maths: Interviewing a Maths Teacher
D. Numbers in Poems: Stories Between Li Bai and Maths

答案

1. C 【解析】根据空后的“the numbers show how fast Li Bai travelled and how happy he felt”可知,这些数字展现了李白旅行的速度和感受到的快乐。
2. C 【解析】根据第三段中“While the tangent curve is like a waterfall. That is really like ‘going down three thousand feet from high’.”

根据空后“the numbers show how fast Li Bai travelled and how happy he felt”,C项“轻舟已过万重山”出自李白《早发白帝城》,体现行舟速度,符合要求,故选C。2. 4. 文章围绕“数学的美”展开,采访数学老师,C项“Beauty in Maths: Interviewing a Maths Teacher”符合主旨,故选C。
【答案】1.C 2.C 3.A 4.C
