[原创]Do you know about New York? How does it develop? You may be puzzled about this. Let's have a look at this city.
The first explorer to arrive in New York Bay in 1524 was the navigator (领航员) Giovanni da Verrazzano. He named this place New Angoulême. The second navigator to explore the bay was Henry Hudson in 1609. Later, it had its new name—New York. And in 1754, Columbia University was built. Today it is one of the most famous universities in the world.
The economic growth (经济增长) and immigrants (移民) played an important part in the development of New York. They transformed the city and made New York the largest city in the US.
Before 1898, New York was made up of only Manhattan. Later, the districts of Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island became part of the city.
During the 20th century, New York grew fast. The Statue of Liberty witnessed the arrival of millions of immigrants. It became the centre of European, Asian and Latin - American immigration. Now New York becomes one of the world's most important cities with the economy (Wall Street), the polity (UN Headquarters) and the culture. It is now a great international tourist site. Today, New York is a dream destination for travellers from all over the world thanks to its appearance in hundreds of books and movies.

3. A 词义猜测题。change 意为“改变”;interview 意为“采访”;invite 意为“邀请”;realize 意为“意识到”。由“The economic growth and immigrants played an important part in the development of New York.”及下文可知,经济增长和移民改变了纽约,所以画线词 transformed 表示“改变”,与 changed 意思相近。
