Hi, Mum and Dad!
Happy New Year! I had a wonderful New Year's Eve in Spain with my friend Diego and his family.
There's a tradition in Spain. People eat twelve grapes at midnight, one for each chime (钟声) of the clock, for good luck. I really wanted to try it! When the clock started ringing, I tried to eat the grapes as fast as I could. But it was too difficult! I had grape juice all over my face, and I couldn't chew(咀嚼) fast enough. Everyone in Diego's family made it, but I could only finish six. At midnight, I laughed to tears(眼泪) with six huge hard grapes in my mouth.
After midnight, I asked Diego, "How does anyone do that? I thought I knew the tradition."
Diego smiled. He showed me a bowl of small soft grapes in the water. "This is our secret," he said. "Understanding the tradition isn't just about knowing you eat twelve grapes. It's about knowing how to do it and getting everything ready before midnight!"
Last night taught me a lot. Now I know the best way to try any tradition.
