Nüwa was a kind goddess in Chinese mythology(神话). She did a lot of good things for human beings(人类). The most famous story about her is “Nüwa mending the sky”.
After Pangu separated the heaven(天）and the earth, Nüwa created human beings with mud. They lived and worked happily. One year, the fire god and the water god had a fight. The water god lost, and he was very angry. Then he knocked down(撞倒) Mount Buzhou. It was the pillar(柱子）that held up(撑起）the sky. So half of the sky fell down and a big hole appeared(出现). The water of the Heavenly River poured(倾泻）into the human world. All living things were facing a disaster(灾难).
Nüwa felt sad and decided to mend the sky with stones. She melted(熔化）the five-coloured stones into paste(糊状物). And then she filled the hole in the sky with the paste. After that, she cut off four legs of a supernatural turtle(神龟）and used them to hold up the sky.
From then on, all living things on the earth lived happily again.
