Jan and Tom sit on the cliffs. The soft sea wind blew their hair as they talked for a full hour, talking about life in the 1970s and life in the 2010s. Tom listens to Jan's description of Port Prime in the future and all the gadgets people have. Jan says, “It must be difficult to live without mobile phones and the Internet.”
“Why? We live OK without them.”
“How do you find information for school or communicate with friends?”
“There are books...encyclopedias（百科全书）...and if I want to talk to my friends, I just walk to their homes. By the way, how many friends do you have?”
“Oh, on Facebook I have 320 friends.”
Tom laughs, “How can you have 320 friends? When do you see them all? How can you possibly meet all of them? Do you have time for other things?”
“I don't see them. They're on the Internet.”
“They don't sound like real friends to me. How many real friends do you have? I mean friends like Pauly and Jamie.”
“I don't know. There's...Michael.”
“That's one. I don't know, Jan. Life in the future doesn't sound great. You don't spend a lot of time with your parents. You've only got one real friend. You can't go out on your own. And you can't ride a bike anywhere you want.”
Jan nodded. They both lie back on the soft grass, with hands behind their heads, laughing as the sun goes down.
