What would you say about Shenzhen? Young, modern, exciting... these all seem to be the right words.
Forty years ago, Shenzhen was just a small fishing village. On 26 Aug. 1980, it became China's first special economic zone(SEZ,经济特区). Everything has changed since then. People built tall buildings in this city. On 4 Sept. 1984, Shenzhen finished building the International Trade Centre. It was China's tallest building at that time. It took only three days to build one new floor. The world was surprised at how fast people built it. The city is famous for making electronic products(电子产品). It is home to many large companies, such as Huawei and Tencent.
People from all over China came to Shenzhen because they want to make their dreams come true. Li Jianyan, a 16-year-old girl thinks Shenzhen is a great city with lots of chances. Her parents came here when they were young. At first her parents sold paint(油漆). They lived together in the paint store. Life was hard in the beginning. Now they have their own factory to make cell phone cases(手机壳). They have also moved into a big house.
In Shenzhen, many people are just like Li Jianyan's parents. They started from nothing. But through their hard work, they live a good life now.
