Taking the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards as an example, Zhang says, "Shipbuilding was once very important in Macao. Although the ship industry has declined (衰退), the old factories offer a chance to show Macao's history." Now they have become a living museum. Local musicians also like to perform (表演) there. Tourists can both learn about history and experience modern life there.
Macao is also building itself as a "City of Performing Arts". With many nice places for concerts and performances, Macao holds lots of art events. During the Chinese Theatre Cultural Festival, tourists can get a taste of traditional Chinese operas like "The Legend of the White Snake".
As a place where Chinese culture meets foreign cultures, Macao provides all kinds of cultural experiences. Supported by the Macao SAR government, "Fado Nights" concerts allow tourists to enjoy Fado, a traditional Portuguese musical form. In the concerts of the festival "Encounter in Macao", Fado is included into Chinese music, creating a new form of performance.
