A recent study shows that people can remember maths better if they learn it before bedtime. Many people think it's better to study when your mind is fresh in the morning, but scientists in the UK said that a good night's sleep helps the words or numbers stick in your brain.
The study asked 184 people in the UK, aged 18 to 40, to learn multiplication problems by heart. The problems required multiplying numbers from 22 to 33 by 6, 7, 8, and 9—for example, 25 times (乘以) 8. The researchers wanted to test how quickly each person could remember the answers.
The volunteers first had to learn the answers before bed, between 8:00 pm and 10:45 pm, and they were tested the next morning. A week later, they were asked to learn answers when they woke up, between 7:30 am and 10:00 am. They were tested at the end of the day.
In both experiments, the volunteers had about 10 hours between learning the problems and taking the tests. The people who learned multiplication problems before bed remembered them better, scoring an average of 20.7. The morning learners scored 18.5.
This study shows that the mind soaks up numbers when we're asleep.

根据第二段中“The study asked 184 people in the UK, aged 18 to 40”可知,研究的对象是英国18到40岁的人群,故选A。
根据第一段中“A recent study shows that people can remember maths better if they learn it before bedtime.”和最后一段“This study shows that the mind soaks up numbers when we're asleep.”
根据“the mind soaks up numbers when we're asleep”以及上文可知,大脑在我们睡觉时会更好地记住数字,因此“soaks up”表示“吸收”,对应“takes in”。故选A。

1. 第1题:题干询问研究的志愿者身份,根据原文第二段“The study asked 184 people in the UK, aged 18 to 40”可知,志愿者是英国18-40岁的人群。
2. 第2题:题干询问从文章可获取的信息,根据第一段“people can remember maths better if they learn it before bedtime”及最后一段“the mind soaks up numbers when we're asleep”可知,睡前学习数学有助于记忆。
A选项“takes in”(吸收)符合;B选项“turns in”(上交)、C选项“puts up”(张贴)、D选项“cleans up”(打扫)均不符合,故选A。
1.A 2.B 3.A
