Congratulations, Jonathan!
When Jonathan, the giant tortoise(巨型陆龟) was born, Queen Victoria was just a teenager. The ruler of the United Kingdom died more than 120 years ago at the age of 81, while Jonathan is still moving around, on one of the world's most faraway islands. In 2024, he turned 192 years old. This makes him the oldest known tortoise on earth.
When Msituni was born, zookeepers were worried that the baby giraffe might die. She was hardly able to stand upright because her front legs were bent(弯曲) in the wrong way. Now, thanks to the braces(支架), she has become healthy and can play with other giraffes.
What a giant!
Scientists have found the fossil(化石) of the heaviest known penguin on Earth. They believe this penguin weighed more than 150 kilograms. This is about three times heavier than the emperor penguin (帝企鹅), the largest of all living penguin species(物种). This giant probably lived between 55 and 60 million years ago, around the time when the dinosaurs died out.
