When I looked at the grade on my maths paper, I was shocked. My score was only 65. As a good student, I had never got such a terrible grade before. When I got home, I was so afraid that I lied to my dad. I told him that I had got 85 and the report wouldn’t come out until the end of the month. Dad smiled, because his daughter(女儿) never lied to him.
A month later, Dad asked me about the report again at the dinner table. He looked right into my eyes and asked for an answer. Having no choice, I told him that I had in fact(事实上) got 65 in my maths exam. I told a lie because I didn’t want to let him down.
For a moment, he just looked at me in silence(静静地). A moment later, he said in a hurt voice, “You have already let me down with your lie. I am not sad at your maths grade. No one can be perfect all the time. However, I am very sorry for you. If you can’t be honest with your dad, who can you be honest with? It’s much easier to get a better grade than to rebuild(重建) others’ trust in you.”
Dad’s words touched my heart(触动我的心). I took out the report, gave it to him and said sorry to him. My dad smiled and gently(温柔地) touched my head, “I’m glad you understand this.” At that moment, I knew that my honesty was not only important to myself, but also to those around me who cared about my happiness.
