D(真题·丽水)
Everyone in Trina's family had a favourite sport. Everyone but Trina. "This has to change," Trina thought, "I need a sport of my own!"
"Hey, Trina!" her big sister Kris called. "Are you coming to my baseball game tonight? I'm pitching!" "Sure!" said Trina. Kris was the best pitcher. "I wish I had such a strong arm", Trina thought.
Trina went into the backyard. "Hey, Trina," said her big brother Jesse. "Are you coming to my track meet on Saturday?" "Sure!" said Trina. Jesse was thin and fast. "I wish I could run and jump like that", Trina thought.
After lunch, the whole family started cleaning the garage. "Catch!" said Dad, when he found an old ball. He threw it to Jesse, but Trina jumped up and got it. "Monkey in the Middle!" Trina called out. It was her favourite game, all the running and jumping and spinning left her breathless and laughing. Even Mum and Dad joined in on the fun. But Trina was still that best "monkey".
"Yikes!" said Dad. "It's late! I've got to go for my basketball game." "And I need to get to the soccer field for my practice," Mum said. "You want to come along, Trina?"
There it was again! Even Mum and Dad had their own sports! Trina felt tears fill her eyes. Mum and Dad and Kris and Jesse all crowded around. "What's wrong?" they asked.
"Sports is wrong!" Trina said. "Everyone has their own sport they're really good at! Everyone but me! I can't do anything!" And she burst into tears.
For a minute Trina's family was quiet. Then they couldn't keep from laughing. "It's not funny!" Trina shouted. "Oh, Trina," Mum said quickly. "We're not laughing at you. But—it really is kind of funny! You're the sportiest one of us all!" "Yes, I've always thought you are just right for the triathlon(铁人三项)," joked Jesse. "You know swimming and biking and running, all in one long race!"
Mum laughed. "Do you want to play on a team?" Trina nodded. It would be fun to play on a real team, with practice and uniforms and teammates of her own age. But for this afternoon, she liked Jesse's idea. To become Triathlon Trina, she had some training to do. "Who wants to ride bikes with me to the pool?" she asked.
