四、阅读表达
What Is a Forest?
A forest is a big area with lots of trees. Trees are the largest plants on the earth. They cover about a third of the earth's surface. They can grow very tall and live for many years.
Tree Types
Most trees are either evergreen or deciduous(落叶的). Evergreen trees have leaves all year round. They can grow in either extremely hot or cold temperatures. A pine is one example of an evergreen tree. It is a tall tree that has very thin, sharp leaves called needles(针叶). Unlike evergreen trees, deciduous trees are leafless seasonally. Every year in fall, their broad leaves turn red or yellow. And then these golden leaves fall and cover the path. But in the following spring, the trees turn a fresh green.
Photosynthesis
Trees make their own food through photosynthesis. They use sunlight, water from the soil, and carbon dioxide gas from the air to produce a sugar called glucose(葡萄糖). Trees also give out oxygen, which we use to breathe. Would life be possible without trees? It would not!
Benefits
Trees offer us wood, which is used to make many things, like paper and furniture. Besides, trees in the forest provide food and homes for animals. For example, many birds live high up in the tree branches where they make a safe place to raise their babies.
1. How many tree types are mentioned in this passage?
2. What does the underlined word "Photosynthesis" mean in Chinese in the passage?
3. What is the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees?
4. What do trees need to make their own food?
5. Why do animals in the forest need trees?

1. 定位Tree Types段落,文中提到“Most trees are either evergreen or deciduous”,可知提到两种树;
2. Photosynthesis所在段落说明树木通过它制造食物,结合生物常识,可猜测词义为光合作用;
3. 原文明确描述:Evergreen trees have leaves all year round,deciduous trees are leafless seasonally,这是两者的区别;
4. 定位Photosynthesis段落,文中提到树木用sunlight, water from the soil, and carbon dioxide gas from the air制造食物;
5. 定位Benefits段落,文中指出树木为动物提供food and homes,因此动物需要树木。
【答案】
1. Two.
2. 光合作用
