三个小矮人
Snow was lying everywhere. No green to
be seen. A poor girl, dressed in a thin old
frock, entered the wood with a basket. She saw
a little house where three dwarfs lived. They
invited her in when she greeted them politely.
Then she had breakfast by the oven to warm
herself. The little men said, "Could you give us
some of it?"
"Willingly," answered she, breaking her
bread in two, and giving them half. They asked
why she came, and she answered, "I have to
get a basket of strawberries, or my stepmother
won't let me go home. " After breakfast, the
dwarfs asked her to sweep the snow behind
their house and she agreed. As she was so good
and pretty, they blessed her:
The first said, "Gold coins shall fall when
you speak. " The second said, "You shall grow
prettier every day." The third said, "A king
shall marry you." Just when she finished
cleaning, bright red strawberries appeared
magically! She joyfully filled her basket full,
thanked the dwarfs and ran home.
