两千年前有一个农民，他所有的家人都是农民。年复一年，农民们春耕秋收，日出而作，日落而息。如果有一个好的收成，他们就有足够的食物吃，有足够的衣服穿。如果没有好的收成，他们就得挨饿。
这个农民想让他的生活变好。但是他太懒了。他经常做白日梦。深秋的某一天，当他在田地里劳作的时候，两队人马在他附近狩猎。很多野兔都跑开了。突然，一只野兔撞向一个树桩，然后死了。
那一天，他把野兔吃了。从那天起，他就再也不去田里（劳作）了。他从早到晚就待在树桩旁，等着更多的野兔。
