2,000 years ago, there was a farmer, and all his family were farmers. Year after year, farmers grew crops in spring and harvested in autumn, beginning to work at sunrise and having a rest at sunset. If they had a good harvest, they could have enough food to eat and enough clothing to wear. If they had a bad harvest, they would starve.
This farmer wanted his life to be good. But he was too lazy. He often daydreamed. One day in late autumn, when he worked in the field, two groups of people were hunting nearby. Lots of hares ran away. Suddenly, a hare ran into the stump of a tree and died.
That day, he ate the hare. From that day on, he didn't go to the field again. From morning to night, he stayed by the stump, waiting for more hares.
