A
The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games took place from Feb. 6 to 22. The Games were special because they were co-hosted by two cities for the first time in Winter Olympic history.
The competition sites were spread across four locations: Milan, Valtellina, Val di Fiemme, and Cortina. Travelling between these places usually took more than five hours one way, as they were 250 to 400 kilometres apart. "It was almost impossible to bring athletes from the mountains to the city for the opening ceremony," Andrea Varnier, the CEO of the Milano-Cortina organizing committee(委员会), said.
That was why the opening ceremony did not take place in just one city. Apart from the main event in Milan, there were smaller ceremonies and athlete parades in other Olympic locations. Two cauldrons(火炬台) were lit at the same time—one at Milan's Arco della Pace and the other at Cortina's Piazza Angelo Dibona, the organizing committee said.
Varnier said that the competition sites were spread out to make use of the already-built ones so they would not be wasted after the Games. Sustainability was a key goal of the Winter Olympics. Even though travelling between the competition sites was difficult, the advantages made it all worth it.
There were 16 sports disciplines(体育项目) and 116 medal events. Ski mountaineering became an Olympic sport for the first time. In this event, athletes first skied uphill, and then carried their skis while climbing. On the top, they took the skins off their skis and raced downhill to the finish line.
During the Games, athletes from all over the world competed and celebrated unity(团结) and the Olympic spirit. It was an event to remember, showing how the Olympics can adapt(适应) and innovate(创新). Let's cheer for them together!

The Games were special because they were co-hosted by two cities for the first time in Winter Olympic history."
Apart from the main event in Milan, there were smaller ceremonies and athlete parades in other Olympic locations."
