[2025 原创] Have you ever tried paper-cutting? This traditional Chinese art is now amazing people in London! An exhibition called “Blooming on Paper” is showing beautiful paper-cutting works at Somerset House.
Ten female artists from China and other countries are sharing their paper art. The exhibition has two parts. The first part shows works by Ku Shulan, a famous paper-cutting master from Shaanxi Province. She was the first Chinese person to receive a special award from UNESCO for her art. This is the first time her works have been shown in the UK!
The second part displays creations by nine artists from different cultures. Their works show how paper-cutting has changed and grown as an art form over time.
Paper-cutting has a long history in China. Long ago, it was especially important for women. Girls learnt this skill at home, and people even judged if a girl would be a good wife by how well she could cut paper! Today, paper-cutting is enjoyed by everyone and tells stories about Chinese culture.
The best part of the exhibition is the interactive area. Visitors can try paper-cutting themselves! After making their own designs, they can hang them on the wall with other artworks. One visitor named Liana said she loved the exhibition. She thought paper-cutting is a wonderful way to tell stories.
