Pontevedra is a busy city in Spain.
Many cars went through its centre every day in the 1990s. This brought much noise, accidents (事故) and pollution.
It was a big problem. In 1999, the city did something helpful. It wanted to put people first. It made its city centre for walkers only. But some cars could still come in. These were ambulances (救护车) and delivery trucks (送货卡车). They could drive only 30 kilometres (千米) an hour. They could not stay long.
Many people in the city worried about the changes. They thought visitors would not come or shop there. But that did not happen. More people even came to live in the city because of the changes.
