n May 2025, the 75th Regeneron International Science
and Engineering Fair (ISEF) took place in Columbus,
Ohio. *It is the world's largest science contest for
students who haven't gone to college yet. It is held yearly.
The ISEF is designed to encourage students to explore STEM. It is

open to students from around the world. This year, about 1,700 students
from 48 US states and over 60 other countries took part.
The winner of this year's top prize, the 100,000 George D.
Yancopoulos Innovator Award, was 19-year-old Adam Kovalčík from Slovakia. He created a new way
of making galidesivir, a medicine for fighting viruses. Adam's new way was much simpler and
cheaper.
Two US students, Benjamin Davis and Siyaa Poddar, each won a 75,000 Regeneron Young
Scientist Award. Benjamin, 16, built a machine to recycle the waste plastic created during 3-D printing.
It works better and faster and costs about 90% less. Siyaa, 16, created a cheap chemical system to test
for dangerous dust in the air. The dust from old mines can cause health problems.
In all, the contest offered more than 9 million in prizes. Many clever students showed their great
projects.
