A Visit to the Desert
Tom is not happy. He is going to Grandpa's house for his vacation.
"There are no shopping malls, no Internet and there's no TV. It's going to be boring." he says. Tom wants to do things with his friends.
When he gets to Grandpa's house, he feels hot. The first day, Grandpa and Tom go on a hike in the desert. Suddenly, Tom sees something moving. "That's a desert tortoise," says Grandpa. "See the shadow the rock makes. The tortoise hides there to get out of heat." Then a big rabbit hops by. "That's a jack rabbit,"says Grandpa. "Its long ears help it to stay cool."
"What interesting animals!" says Tom. "Maybe this vacation isn't going to be boring at all!"
"Will you come next year?" says Grandpa.
"Of course!" says Tom.
