Cao Chong Weighs an Elephant
Long ago in China, a leader named Cao Cao got a very big elephant. People asked, “How to weigh this huge animal?”
His helpers wanted to use a giant scale, but it broke. Then Cao Cao’s 7-year-old son Chong had a smart plan.
“Put the elephant on a boat in the river,” he said. Soldiers did this, and Chong made a mark on the boat where the water touched.
Next, they took the elephant off and put stones into the boat. They kept adding stones until the water reached Chong’s mark.
“Now weigh the stones!” said Chong. When they added all the stones’ weight, it was the elephant’s weight!
Everyone clapped. So, you see, smart ideas can solve big problems!
