D
Does anyone around you keep pet rocks? Yes, you read that right—pet rocks! More and more young people are falling in love with rocks. They dress them in lovely clothes and take them out to explore the big world. When I first saw pictures of these “pets”, I thought, “Wow, how cute they are!” But as I kept scrolling(滚动屏幕), I started to wonder why people would want some lifeless rocks as pets. And then it hit me: Life has changed a lot over the past few years.
We, as animals, must stay alive first. A long time ago, people spent most of their time finding food and building homes. Today, most of us don’t have to worry about those basic needs. But with all the extra free time, we aren’t really “lying flat(躺平).” Instead, we, as humans, are trying to reach a new level of survival(生存).
This survival is about being the best among us. We work hard to become successful and rich. This puts lots of pressure on our lives. I know this very well. At one point, even my dogs went from being my best friends to feeling like time wasters. After all, they can’t help me fill my bank account(账户), can they?
The pet rocks got me thinking about what it really means to be human. Life isn’t all about making money or being successful. Sometimes, it’s just about having simple, fun moments.
I don’t have a pet rock, but I just bought an aquarium(养鱼缸). I can’t wait to start keeping fish. I’ve wanted to do it for years but held back because it seemed “meaningless.”
How do you stay human? Will you also get some fish? Or maybe you can keep your own pet rocks!
