One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a boy from my class, named Kyle, who was walking home from school, carrying all of his books. I wanted to lend him a hand but I was in a hurry to go home. So I went on. Suddenly, I saw him falling on the ground. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him.
So, I jogged over to him when he crawled around looking for his glasses. "Hey, thanks!" he said as I handed him his glasses. There was a big smile on his face.
I learned our homes not far away from each other. So we went home together. From then on, I often invited him to played football together with my friends on Saturday and he made a very good impression on my friends and me. And then Kyle and I became the best friends.
Several years later, Kyle told me that he was asked to speak on graduation(毕业) day. In his speech, he said, "The graduation is the best moment to express our gratitude(感激) to those who helped us. I would like to thank my best friend."
Then, he began to talk about how we had known each other. My eyes widened in surprise. Until that moment I knew that day many years ago, he planned to leave the school because he didn't have any friends at school and felt very lonely. He said he had carried all his books home, so that he didn't need to come back to school. Having said that, he looked at me with a smile on his face and went on, "However, I was so lucky that I had a friend from that day on."
