The world’s largest digital camera is at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory on top of a mountain in Chile. Scientists and engineers spent almost 20 years building this amazing camera. It is huge—about the size of a small car. They put the camera in a giant telescope and pointed it at the sky.
On 23 June, 2025, the team showed the camera’s first pictures to the world. In just over 10 hours, the camera took photos of millions of stars and galaxies, and thousands of space rocks that no one saw before.
